Role Overview
We are looking for a QA Data Engineer to build and implement a data testing and quality framework for a data programme running on Snowflake.
You will translate existing data quality requirements into practical, reusable tests across Acquisition and Curation, integrate them into CI/CD, and hand over the completed test suite to the Data Management team.
Key Responsibilities
- Assess existing data testing tools and recommend the best-fit solution.
- Review and extend dbt test coverage across Snowflake models.
- Translate data quality requirements into practical dev-time and production tests.
- Build and configure a reusable dbt-based data test suite covering Acquisition and Curation.
- Implement checks covering completeness, accuracy, timeliness, consistency, uniqueness and validity.
- Integrate data tests into CI/CD using Jenkins, GitHub Actions or equivalent.
- Support developer self-service testing and scheduled production assurance testing.
- Monitor test coverage, defects, alerts and Snowflake compute usage.
- Document the test framework and provide runbooks and knowledge transfer to the Data Management team.
- Work closely with Data Engineers, Analysts, QA and Data Management stakeholders.
Required Skills
- Advanced SQL and strong hands-on dbt experience in a production Snowflake environment.
- Experience with data quality testing frameworks, such as dbt-expectations, Great Expectations, Soda or equivalent.
- Strong Snowflake / data warehousing / Lakehouse experience, including streams, tasks, time travel, cloning and semi-structured data.
- CI/CD experience with Jenkins, GitHub Actions or equivalent.
- Python for test orchestration and scripting.
- Strong understanding of data quality dimensions and testable assertions.
- Understanding of deterministic data testing alongside AI/ML model and agent evaluation.
Nice to Have
- Entity resolution / fuzzy matching experience.
- Data lineage and source-system conflict/precedence experience.
- Risk, Financial Crime or Financial Services experience.
- AWS, Azure or GCP experience.
- Snowflake certification.
