AWS Platform Engineer – London – Contract
A research focused engineering organisation operating at serious compute scale is investing further in how application workloads are delivered and run in AWS.
The team sits between platform and application engineering, making sure teams can ship quickly while still operating inside strong security, governance, and operational guardrails.
This is a senior, deeply hands on role suited to engineers who have supported production cloud applications end to end, rather than only building underlying infrastructure.
Key responsibilities:
- Building services on AWS, helping shape how container and event driven workloads are designed and run in production
- Set practical standards around service visibility, ensuring teams can trace behaviour from deployment through to live operation and incident response
- Connect AWS services cleanly into internal engineering ecosystems including version control, build systems, artifact storage, and security tooling
- Spot and remove inefficiencies across build, validation, and release processes through automation and platform level improvements
- Design and implement automated controls that embed security and governance guardrails into engineering workflows, including policy enforcement, account level operations, and core platform automation
What you’ll need:
- Advanced Terraform capability, including designing shared module ecosystems, structuring large codebases, and introducing validation or test coverage approaches
- Strong Python engineering background focused on building internal tooling, automation frameworks, or platform utilities
- Solid experience working with delivery tooling in complex environments, with Jenkins exposure being particularly useful
- Strong practical container knowledge, including image lifecycle management, registry workflows, and embedding security checks into build processes
- Real world experience building service visibility using native AWS telemetry tooling across logs, metrics, and alerting
- History of working directly with product or application engineers to make releases safer and faster
- Comfort operating across multiple engineering disciplines without creating friction or unnecessary process
You will influence how production services are delivered and operated across the estate. The environment is technically demanding, widely used, and highly visible internally.
