    Get to know us

    Darrin Mathie

    Managing Director

Building on over 15 years of experience in the Insurance, Financial Services and Professional Services sectors Darrin founded Arcus Search to provide a dedicated and personal approach to client and candidate partnerships – something he felt was not always prevalent in today’s recruitment world.

    A bit of background

I have always enjoyed developing new business, and working towards growth, helping to generate revenue for the companies I work with through strategic talent appointments.

What I love about my job

Simple – making a difference, cultivating long term relationships, supporting individual growth, partnering with candidates and clients.

    I’m most proud of

The culture we are creating at Arcus, the growth and development of everyone in the business. We have exceptional people and talent in the business and to be involved in their development and growth both personally and professionally, is the most satisfying part of my role.

    An interesting fact

My guilty secret: I love catching up on a bit of desert island discs whilst on the move.

    In my spare time

Prioritising my loved ones and spending quality time with them is what makes me happy. If I’m not running around with Archie & Ernest (my two boys) then I’m having a laugh and a glass of wine with my girlfriend and friends.

      Lisa Webb

      Operations Director

Having worked with Darrin for several years in a previous role, she wanted to join him at Arcus as she felt her operational skills, combined with his recruitment experience would form a solid partnership for success.

      A bit of background

I’ve worked in recruitment since 1999, and have a real passion for driving operational excellence throughout an organisation to ensure that it has a solid/scaleable platform to aid growth. I knew from early on that the opportunities for success were unlimited, and all you need is enthusiasm, a good work ethic and to be surrounded by like-minded individuals.

What I love about my job

Unlimited opportunities, satisfaction in utilising my skill set, the team I am working with and seeing a business go from strength to strength.

      I’m most proud of

The legacy I have left in the businesses I have worked for, the talented individuals I have had the pleasure of working alongside, the friends I have met along the way,  and when I was runner-up in the Best Newcomer category at the Hamilton Bradshaw Awards 2013!

      An interesting fact

I gave birth to a daughter in January 2018 who has shown me a whole new meaning to life.

      In my spare time

I like making memories with my family, and I’m also a big sports fan – Formula 1, Netball, Tennis and Golf, and I also drive my family Tanning Shop business on the side!

        Haaris Mahmood

        Director

Haaris worked with Darrin in a previous role, and greatly admired his industry knowledge and achievements so much that he wanted to work alongside him to further promote and partner Arcus’ clients.

        A bit of background

Having attended Loughborough University in my youth, I was persuaded to make the move further north to Cheshire with my wife. I’ve eight years of recruitment experience encompassing sales publishing, finance, change, data, technology and corporate governance.

What I love about my job

I love the fact that I have the opportunity to provide, genuine, honest, credible, consultative, dynamic, passionate, proven, expertise to our candidates and clients. The market I serve is a network-based, relationship-led environment, and the ability to get in front of these professionals is a real passion of mine. Understanding their motivations, professionally, personally, whether it be client or candidate and the ability to understand and support is what drives me on a daily basis.

        I’m most proud of

Without giving away the names of my clients, I have successfully built Change-Data-IT teams for a number of underwriters, brokers, consultancies and further suppliers to the insurance market. I have provided talent that has allowed my clients to Insource, evolve from greenfield or mature brownfield environments, in the above disciplines. I’ve also been a confidant, consultative and knowledgeable talent partner to my clients, where they can rely on me for market intelligence in order to identify the key skills, level, character, remuneration we need to propose to the market when building a team or teams. From a candidate perspective, my biggest compliment is that my clients become my candidates and vice versa. My network trusts me to remain confidential, professional, knowledgeable, honest and deliver for them.

        An interesting fact

I was a Tottenham Hotspur youth goalie from U14 through to U17 level and I am a huge Tottenham Hotspur fan.

        In my spare time

I’m an avid gym goer, and I have three children to fill my time! My boys are huge football fans and actively participate, and my wife and daughter keep us all on our toes.

        Interesting fact

My Granny Ba played at Wimbledon when she was 16 in a winter knock-out competition, losing in the final. Some of my fondest memories with her are her teaching me to play tennis. She instilled in me the determination to never give up on my dreams.

I love the fact that working in recruitment gives me the opportunity to work with people from all walks of life, from candidates, clients, and colleagues

        I’m most proud of:

The teams I have built and businesses I have helped scale over the years. There is nothing more rewarding than seeing people join with little recruitment experience and being a part of their journey to achieving their personal and professional goals.

I’ve travelled to over 21 Countries and still figuring out how to catch an even tan!

        A Bit of Background:

I attended London South Bank University to study Construction Management. Leaving university, the corporate world never quite appealed to me. With an entrepreneurial spirit and a love for networking, the allure of uncapped earnings and a constantly evolving network was too enticing to resist. It was clear to me that the realm of recruitment was where I belonged.

What I Love About My Job:

I really love working in recruitment. It’s a job where I can get as much out as I put in, and I get to build strong relationships with people. Throughout my career, I’ve had the chance to travel the world and learn about different kinds of people & culture. The “recruitment salesfloor” is lively and energetic, and in my opinion, nothing beats that.

        I’m Most Proud Of:

I take immense pride in the accomplishments of my different teams along the way. Beyond professional triumphs, I cherish my home and, most importantly, the garden I take great pride in.

        Interesting Fact:

In a brush with fame, my shoe became a canvas for the signature of none other than Levi Roots, adding a unique touch to my story…

        In My Spare Time:

I find balance through a medley of passions. I’m an avid cook, a gym enthusiast, and an eager runner and boxer. Savouring the rewards of hard work, I relish in the simple pleasure of sharing a pint while celebrating life’s achievements.

Post University, I started my career in Fraud Analytics, where I learned an awful lot about the good, bad and truly ugly side of humans! I then discovered a passion for recruitment and haven’t looked back since!

What I love about my job

The favourite part of my job is hearing feedback from clients on the work their hires are doing. Most of my placements make real changes to the organisations they join and I get to see the changes first hand. I also love building out teams from scratch, from inception to completion finding the right resources for a successful project is the reason I get out of bed.

        I’m most proud of

        My Family

        Interesting fact

I’ve broken 26 bones in my time, with 13 of them coming from a single rugby tackle…

        In my spare time

I like to attempt challenges that are way above my station and not bother training for them in any capacity. Recently I decided it was a good idea to cycle in the London-Surrey 100 which had absolutely no benefit to me. I also enjoy playing the occasional game of golf and in my past I used to chase eggs for a living.
